When you hear the word Coca-Cola or it’s brand logo it almost seems that he’s always been there with your whole life through it’s long time Commercials and Birthday, Christmas, New year celebrations.
Though we might think it’s just an ordinary soda drink, but it is not.
It went through a lot of strange things before it was known as the Coca-Cola we know today.
The drink was invented in 1885 by John Pemberton, a pharmacist from Atlanta, Georgia. John created it to treat his morphine addiction, an opioid medication used to treat moderate to severe pain, because of his his trauma of getting slash by saber sword during Civil War.
He looked for a remedy for his addiction and at that time he heard good things about a wine called “ Vin Mariani “ which contains Coca Leaves, Red whine and Kola nuts.
That gave John an idea to start his own remedy to cure his Morphine addiction he created a whine called “ Pembertons French While Cola “.
The remedy was an instant hit by many but the demand alone was not enough to keep the business going plus the Atlanta and other states of the US announced to ban Alcohol.
John feared that it would end his “ Pembertons French While Cola “ remedy
John was forced to pivot his business leading to the invention of Coca-Cola
Extracting Coca leaf to create cocaine substance in his backyard and Kola Nuts which contains caffeine, sugar, lemon oil, orange, vanilla, nut mag, and other extracts he then originally made the name of the product “ Coca Kola “
But John’s book keeper and marketer Frank Robinson suggested to change “ Kola “ to Cola “ so it would look more eye catching , John took the suggestion.
Back in the 18’s up to 20th Century Coca leaf was perceive as medicinal due to it’s effect of treating depression, anxiety, pain, morphine addiction.
Through out the years John’s Coca-Cola suffered Win and Loss
But it was Frank Robinsons responsibility to look for the right investor to keep the business going, that’s where he met Asa Griggs Candler a wealthy, hardworking entrepreneur.
Who’s later on responsible for taking out the cocaine substance from the Coca-Cola
The coca leaf or cocaine was take out over time not due to the laws & regulation and the bad effects of the substance but by racism on south, there was a concern about cocaine contributing the black crime on Atlanta.
Family drink may it seem but a lot really happened through out the history before the brand was established as one of the most successful drinks.
